Can we just take a moment and look at this? This came up on my dash the other day and I think Disney really needs to have a gay/lesbian/bi/transgendered character.

I want this to happen!

I know Disney will butcher the story but I still want it to happen.

how about the fact that everyone is relying on disney to make a movie about gay people?

disney isn’t a person, it’s a giant corporation that spews out a bunch of rules to its animators and park workers to make a shitload of cash. it’s formulaic and historically traditionalist. it’s interested in making money, not spreading awareness of the lgbt movement.

so… if you want to make an lgbt movie, make an lgbt movie. find a studio willing to produce it. write a script. storyboard. fuck man, you could do what disney did and make a studio yourself!

you’re not going to make a lot of money. not every child is going to see it. not every parent is going to let their child see it if they hear about it. it might not get reviews. it might not even be good. but you’ll spread the movement, and you’ll break a lot of ground.

and if you’re not going to do that, well…

I agree with most of what you said, but I think the point of the post is that a studio as iconic as Disney making a movie with sympathetic LGBT characters would reach an audience otherwise untapped by that genre of film and possibly change a lot of minds.  It may not be plausible right now, but if the movement keeps progressing, eventually they’ll figure out that’s where the money is.  

That being said, anyone feel like making a movie?  I don’t know much about it, but at least finances wouldn’t be a problem.
